"Still, this beauty queen with a fang can rarely be seen and her star will no longer shines because she will go back (for good) to her own cave," adds Miss D.

Seen: Former lifestyle editor Manuel Ferdinand "De Ers" de Erio didn't attend the grand alumni homecoming of Psychology graduates of University of Bohol held May 6, 7 and 8. "He didn't attend because he didn't like to see an old friend," said a partyphile VRS. "He looks radiant despite the strings of cases filed against him," added VRS.

Scene: The popular website www.bohol.ph created by Jeroen Hellingman of Netherlands has turned 10 years old last May 9. Jeroen narrated that before he came to Bohol in 1998, he oriented himself on the internet about Bohol but very little information was available at that time. "For me, it is great to see back those early pages," said Jeroen, a Dutch, married to Rodelyn Gallo of San Isidro. www.bohol.ph will continue to promote Bohol on the internet, with as complete as possible listings of resorts and hotels, information on things to do and to see, and all kinds of practical travel information. "This summer, we will be touring Bohol once more to collect more information and more stories for this site," adds Jeroen.

Bohol Medical Care offers affordable medical exams

Every day we face choices that can affect our health. Our doctors and health experts can give us information and tools to help us make informed decisions to live a healthy and balanced life.

And so I went to see Dr. Angelito Lechago, M.D., an internist and cardiologist (Ramiro Community Hospital, Rm 105 , Tel No: 411-3515 local 1005, Clinic Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and HNU Medical Center Foundation Inc. (Rm 214 2nd floor, Tel No: 501-9947-48 local 1213; Clinic Hours: Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. – 12 noon) for my cardiovascular check-up to find out if I have still a healthy heart.

Studies show that one in three Filipinos has some kind of heart disease. Research has proven a number of risk factors like family history, demographics and lifestyle.

I'd echocardiography (2d echo) at the new Holy Name University Medical Center Foundation, Inc, (HNU Campus, Dampas District, Tagbilaran City, tel No: (038) 501-9946-47) with accommodating and friendly staff.

I went to Bohol Medical Care Institute (J.A. Clarin Street, Dao District, Tagbilaran City; Tel No: 038-235-7379, 501-9524, email: mbci2009@yahoo.com, office hours: Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) for my cardiac panel, chest x-tray and ultrasound. My ultrasound for the whole abdomen was performed by popular radiologist and sonologist Dr. Reuel Relampagos.

It was good to see an old friend, Dave Maulas, who's the director of the BMCI. It's the same Dave - cool and workaholic - I met years ago when he was the president of the Holy Name University (HNU)-Central Student Government and at the Bohol Sandugo Foundation.

Established in 2009, the Bohol Medical Care Institute (BMCI) is a joint project of the provincial government of Bohol, First Consolidated Bank (FCB) Foundation, dyRD Inyong Alagad Foundation and New York-based HomeReach Foundation dedicated to the well-being of the Boholano people.

"BMCI has the most affordable medical exam in the province," shares Dave.

And I agree! The basic package (urinalysis, stool exam, complete blood count, blood typing, chest x-tray and ECG) – P600.00, pre-employment package (urinalysis, stool exam, chest x-ray and medical certificate) – P290.00, cardiac panel – P1, 150.00, maternity (pregnancy package)- P880.00, executive male package – P3,100.00 and executive female package – P4,200.00.

Healthy living means creating optimum physical, mental and spiritual health with a nutritious, positive, active, healthy lifestyle.

"After all, if you don't take care of your body, where are you going to live? You can get a new house, a new car or new clothes, but the body and life you have right here and now is the only one you get to work with," says a medical bulletin. ?

The most important criteria for living a happy healthy lifestyle are: healthy eating, getting exercise, a positive attitude, rest and relaxation, healthy relationships and a healthy social life.

It was financial consultant Rammel Cagulada, president of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA)-Bohol, who informed Bared that a Boholana joined the Miss World-Philippines audition at SM Cebu.

"Who's that HNU student who is joining Miss World Philippines?" texted Rammel.

"Really? I don't know." I answered back.

Donna Maricel Cardino

It slipped on my mind that Friday the 13th was Miss World Philippines Cebu search.

"Please ask who that girl is. Thanks!" And Rammel, who incidentally visited SM after a convention he attended in Cebu City, obliged to ask the Boholana's name and little info.

"She is Donna Maricel Cardino."

Donna Maricel Cardino was thrust into the spotlight after winning the Miss Mandaue 2011. People didn't know that even before she became Miss Mandaue, she had joined beauty pageants in Bohol (2nd-runner up of Miss Tagbilaran 2008 and Miss Bohol Sandugo 2008).

Donna (22, 5'8", 128 lbs, 34-26-35) worked at Stream Global Services (Technical support) until she resigned on April 30 this year because of hectic schedule. She finished Tourism at Holy Name University.

The tallest of the 16 candidates during the Miss Mandaue 2011 held last May 5, Donna will represent Mandaue City in the Miss World-Philippines 2011. If she can make it to the Miss World-Philippines 2011, she will have the chance to win 1 million pesos, a talent management contract and a brand new condo.

Thankfully, Donna was online on Facebook yesterday and we talked about her new experience as a beauty queen.

How was Miss World Philippines audition? "It was a nice experience. It was a different screening. I hope masud ko in the final screening in Manila."

What are your preparations for the final screening of Miss World Philippines in Manila? "To be honest wala pa ko magprepare hehehe I'm still trying to enjoy being the new Miss Mandaue. I still even miss the bonding moments with my co-candidates."

Donna said that her "family and friends who are very supportive" are her inspirations.

Regarding the controversial RH Bill, Donna stiffly opposed the passage of the bill, which she said is "anti life." "It contains provisions that are against the Catholic Church."

The Miss World Philippines is now under the leadership of tri-media personality and wellness expert Cory Quirino For the first time, the Philippines will bid to host the Miss World beauty pageant in 2013.

Miss World is believed to be the longest-running international beauty pageant. But for 60 years, the country has not won the title. The highest rank the country has achieved was first runner-up won by Evangeline Pascual in 1973.
