Bared... Loida Lagonoy 'deprived' Miss Bohol International?

Tagbilaran, Monday, 27 July 2009

Wake-uppers:

  • Enhorabuena to Mrs. Rose Soy for winning the prestigious Mrs. Bohol International 2009. The Queen of Rotary for four straight years, Mrs. Rose shows no signs of slowing down as she continues to help the needy through the Rotary projects. Mrs. Rose's involvement in the Mrs. Bohol International (one of the many activities of TBTK chaired by Mrs. Betty Veloso-Garcia) serves as an inspiration to everyone that "charity begins at home."
  • Correction, please: From Reigh Monreal: Noella Mae Buhion Evangelista of Iligan City, both parents are Boholanos, was crowned Queen of Tourism International and Queen of Continental Asia in 2003. That makes her the first Boholana to join and win in an international beauty pageant. Evangelista was judge of the Miss Bohol International 2009 on July 24 together with beauty queen Janina San Miguel and Direk Maryo delos Reyes.
  • Could it be true that one of the nominees for the Ten Outstanding Boholanos Around the World or Tobaw (the awarding was held last night) was "angry" -- and more when he learned that he was excluded? According to Bared Very Reliable Source (VRS), the nomination was rejected because it lacks merits and this person needs to establish himself in the community. "We set a standard to follow because the award is not just an ordinary award given to outstanding Boholanos. You can ask anybody to nominate or you can nominate yourself, but the committee has still to research and evaluate the nominees if they are worth to be included in the dossier of outstanding Boholanos," VRS said. "Perhaps this person is living in a grand delusion. It's hard to open your eyes if your dreams are too sweet, but sometimes it's a must to wake up because it's the only reasonable way to see reality," VRS added.
  • Some members of this association are spreading stories that this (famous) journalist in the province "tribulized" the presscon they're hosting because he was wearing only slippers. In the first place, the journalist would not come to the presscon because of other important event but he went with the group when he found out that there was no media. He's wearing shorts and Havaianas to fit himself with the ambiance in Dauis. The members were so "sweet" when this journalist was around, but when he went home, the members were talking negative things that it was recorded in a mobile phone by a member (who has the conscience and the only angel in the group). The journalist is throwing away all his 8 pairs of Havaianas and Roxy for them to know that his slippers are more expensive than the members who loss the values of their organization. "We are wondering how they become members?" VRS shared the sentiment.

And it came to pass that while all of us had our eyes and ears glued to the wide-screen waiting to see her again, Miss Bohol International 2006 Loida Tiza Lagonoy (who represented University of Bohol) made the most unexpected "shocking" and "awful" revelation of all time in the history of beauty pageantry in the province of Bohol during the Miss Bohol International 2009 coronation night held on July 24 at the Holy Name University gym.

Miss Bohol Sandugo 2006 Loida Tisa Lagonoy made a "shocking" revelation that she is "deprived" of many things (and rights) as a beauty queen including her round trip ticket prize going to the USA.

Loida "accused" the organizers that her round trip ticket prize going to the US in 2006 was not given to her and she was not accorded the treatment that befitted a queen. She created mixed of emotions—surprising everyone — when she said that her "reign was a reign that never was."

"My reign was the reign that never was. I have not been involved in any activity that I could serve the purpose of my title well," she said.

Loida said she was more than willing to assume the role that should been designed for her but it was never materialized.

"I was not able to travel because I didn't receive any roundtrip ticket which is supposedly one of my major prizes. I had to sweat my way out to claim such an elusive prize which I believed should not reached such a stressful point it had only been effectively facilitated," she further said.

Unlike the previous winners (Miss Bohol International 1999 Chan Cajegas and Miss Bohol International 2003 Maya Calope Galva) who were treated and pampered more than queens, Loida said she didn't receive a "queenly" treatment from the organizers. "I didn't receive a treatment anybody would expect to be given to a beauty queen," she said.

She also said that she handled the whole affair with dignity, grace and pose.

Loida wants to be remembered as a Miss Bohol International "a person who sincerely expressed her gratitude to the people who helped her… somehow who is giving back to the community her own caring ways, and somehow who remains true and honest in all her dealings with people and around her."

The irony was while the speech was played, she was smiling and waving to all as if she was mocking them. Her bravura act eclipsed and outshone the crowning of the new queens (the Miss Bohol International 2009 is Carlene Yap representing the Philippine Nurses Association-Bohol chapter).

Carlene Yap is the Miss Bohol International 2009.

"I was being honest. If I didn't do it, I will regret for the rest of my life," she said.

In the production number, Loida appeared in "Nobody's dance" together with the dancers but she wasn't acknowledged. "So, we didn't know it was her," said one watcher.

According to "beauty experts" who were at the pageant night, "we admire her guts and for saying it as it was."

According to VRS, Loida wasn't in a hurry to get her visa when she won because she was still a 3rd year college student taking up Nursing at the University of Bohol. "Wala siya magdali (she's not in a hurry) because she know she has 2 years," VRS said.

The ticket issue mounted weeks ago and we're thinking there was amicable settlement. In a talk with Ate Vi weeks ago, Loida was not given the round trip tickets because she didn't claim it during her reign. However, Loida said, "I understand there was 1 year claimability and 1 year validity ticket going to LA, USA I was third year when I won. If graduate ko sakto akong calculation that it was time to go to the USA."

Another VRS said that "it's sad to say that both parties have no written agreement." "The winners don't know their role because beauty pageants in Bohol have no contracts so definitely the winners don't know their role during their year. It's about time that the organizers should be professional since the beauty pageant industry is alive."

After the revelation, Loida is being asked everywhere she goes. "God knows what's best for me and I need to fight for my right."

Bared tried to get the side of the organizer (the 1996 Miss Bohol International was chaired BY Dame Pureza Chatto and the 2009 Miss Bohol International is chaired by Vilma "Ate Vi" Yorong) but he failed to. A space will be given to them if they're ready to air their side.

Sidelights and highlights

Here are some interesting sidelights to this year's Miss Bohol International:

Seasoned host Raul Gatal interviewed Loida
Lagonoy in 2006. Raul knows how to enliven the
crowd unlike this year's search.

Just like the first three editions, it started an hour late. Its saving graces were the fast-pacing of the show and the good batch of candidates.

The candidates were sexy in their production number. Carlene Yap who was darling of the press stood elegantly. Jagna's bet Idy Caseñas Cagas was an early favorite but she wasn't able to make it to the top 5.

Guldameer Sombrio who represented SK was proclaimed 4th runner-up. The SK family were all there to support her quest.

Mestiza beauties who joined this year's aren't "mabenta" to the judges.

The host, Roy Ecleo of ABS-CBN Cebu, though look gorgeous wasn't able to enliven the crowd. With his limited communication skills with the candidates and the crowd, the show was a bit boring. He made the pageant his concert night.

For the pageant that boasted of international caliber, the production values were disappointing to say the least.

What Chatto and Cajes will wear at Sona?

Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's State of the Nation's Address (Sona) will be tomorrow. Representatives Edgar Chatto, Roberto Cajes and Adam Relson Jala will wear Barong Tagalog.

Dame Pureza Chatto will wear Filipiniana to the Sona. "I always wear Filipiniana, Yeah, terno as we call it."

Trinidad Mayor Judith del Rosario-Cajes will wear a terno made from raffia (from Inabanga) exclusively designed for her by Charloe Arbasto. The gown is hand-painted. Carloe also designed the Barong Tagalog of Rep. Cajes made of raffia.

SK national president Jane Censoria Cajes will wear dark blue modern Filipiniana gown.
