Sandugo nightly shows at the Tagbilaran City Tourist Port

Tagbilaran, Friday, 2 July 2004

BOHOL is currently gearing up for the upcoming 16th Bohol Sandugo Celebration 2004, which is spearheaded by the Bohol Sandugo Foundation, Inc. (BSFI), in partnership with the provincial government of Bohol and city government of Tagbilaran. Taking the helm are the BFSI chair, Gov. Erico Aumentado with former city Mayor Jose Torralba and newly-appointed BSFI executive director Mayor Dan Lim, who lead the various committees in projecting the 2004 Blood Compact concept into a more colorful and exciting parcel of events than the previous years. This year’s theme is “Salmot, Saulog, Sandugo 2004: WOW Bohol for unity and progress.” Specifically, the festivities hope to project into the Filipino consciousness its being a cause and opportunity to celebrate Boholano culture in the spirit of unity towards growth amid diverse global influences.

Highlights

One of the main highlights of the Bohol Sandugo celebration is the Bohol Sandugo Arts Festival to be coordinated by the provincial government through the Center for Culture and Arts Development (Ccad) on July 21-30. It includes a series of culture and arts such as art exhibits, fora, artistic interactions, art competitions, workshops and nightly cultural activities from July 5-25 that will highlight the best of Bohol’s cultural gems and guests artists from other provinces. In an effort to provide guests with a wholesome cultural treat, nightly activities sponsored and coordinated by various establishments to be held at the Tagbilaran City Tourist Port Boulevard featuring diverse performing groups.

On July 20, the local community will be afforded once again, the opportunity of witnessing the awesome talents of Bohol’s top cultural groups such as Alicia Musika Pangkat Kawayan, Dimiao Children’s Rondella and others who will be performing live onstage during the “Gabii sa Bol-anong Garbo ug Gawi” at the Tagbilaran City Port Area. This is coordinated by the provincial government through Ccad with First Consolidated Bank (FCB). FCB has been a consistent supporter of the province’s culture and arts endeavors.

Another night of fun, excitement and surprises is the “Balut, Balak o Beer,” a whole evening of poetry reading, performances and games/quizzes centering on the theme. The activity aims to revitalize a traditional poetry form—the balak, with contemporary twist to the literary art form. The Kaliwat ni Karyapa (KAKA), a local writers’ group will be coordinating the activity with Ccad and sponsored by San Miguel Beer.

I was in Candijay, Bohol many years ago and had a friend called Aquilina Timbal from Boyo-an.I wonder if someone could please tell me if she is still around. We shared some happy memories while I was there. I also met some of the Amora's there. I sure would like to hear from someone in the area. I live overseas but would like to visit Candijay and the old Church and the plaza, etc. I am sure things have changed so much. I still have some old photos of the place, its green fields, etc.
