My advise to you is to check the hotels websites here to gather information and choose the hotel you want to stay or look for current rates. Normally lodges are cheaper than hotels and resorts. I hope that you'll find a hotel that you like.

I find it difficult to give an advice to somebody especially in terms of having a cheap or tight vacation. One person is expecting a cheap accommodation as just a place to sleep with without any luxury things and another is expecting to have a luxury accommodation like aircon but in a low budget. The "cheap" might be differ to each individuals, someone think that 1,500 pesos per room per day is a normal price while others, 800 pesos is pricey.--Rodelyn

I think it doesn't matter kong asa ka sa Panglao mag pundo, ma Alona beach ba o ma Dumaluan beach ba kaha kay puro man na sila mga white beaches. Ang daghan og mga kapilian sa mga hotels o resorts kay ang sa may Alona beach. May mga well maintained beaches sa Panglao pero exclusive lang na sila sa mga guest sa hotel mismo o pwede kang maka suroy suroy o makagamit sa beach pero mo bayad ka pa una og entrance fee sa hotel kong dili ka guest sa hotel mismo. Ang Alona beach kay accessible man sa tanan og may mga pipila sab ka mga resorts nga may mga bungalows nga pwede kang maka luto. Sa may information directory makita nimo ang mga listahan sa mga Hotel and Resorts sa Bohol, ang uban nila anaay mga websites. 1) Take out the Badjaos roaming around the pier area and in the Tagbilaran City main thoroughfares especially near the BQ Mall and the Tagbilaran City Square. These scroungers dig their fingers into your skin asking for money or food. This is not good. What are the authorities doing about this?

2) When I arrive from Cebu, tricycle and taxi drivers at the pier area follow me around trying to get the best deal. You see the dollar sign in their eyes and always ask, "Panglao, sir?" "Panglao, sir?" Why? Is Panglao the only destination for foreigners? Why can't these drivers just line up and wait for their turn? Why can't they leave people in peace? Why don't they do this to a Filipino? Why choose only me? I do not have much money!

Both are just minor issues for a visiting tourist in my opinion. Yes, I too would love to see this change. However, the beggars at the pier and in the Dao bus terminal are a sad fact of life in the Philippines, which is in many ways still a poor country, but just kicking them out is not going to work. They are people that want to live. Have a few pesos ready, and deal with it, or deserve the epithet kuripot. The taxi and tricycle drivers, too, have to eke a living out of it. Once you are a regular, they will know your face, and you will know who to pick for your destination. You may not be rich, but can afford it, and you wouldn't want to exchange roles.--Jeroen.

I agree. These messages have become increasingly frequent. Since I have a business directory, operators should get themselves listed there, and visitors to this site can look up the operators of their choice from this directory. The cottages on Pamilacan are pretty basic, at least last time a was there. That is, the cottages have a bamboo floor, amakan (woven bamboo) walls and nipa (a kind of palm leaf) roofs, straight on the beach. They have a separate little hollow block building as shared CR (toilet), and a thatched roof semi-open building as restaurant. Great and peaceful if you can enjoy such facilities and like to sit on the beach, read a book and swim all day. If you need more luxury or entertainment, one of the bigger resorts on Panglao is probably better for you.--Jeroen.

Some of the larger resorts and hotels have facilities for conferences, such as the Bohol Beach Club, Bohol Tropics, the Metro Centre, etc. I think it will be wise to call a few of them and ask for quotations.--Jeroen.

What you're asking for is difficult. Very few places for rent are truly beach-front. Even though the resort may be fronting the beach, most of their rooms or houses do not. Since these places are in high demand, you are unlikely to get them cheap. Furthermore, what is cheap depends on your budget. You can stay in Panglao from about 15 to over 200 US dollars per night per room. The cheaper places are mostly a couple of hundred meters from Alona beach (and may actually provide much better value for money than the expensive places directly on the beach); the most expensive places are away from Alona Beach, and front a piece of beach that is only accessible through the resort, and hence effectively private.--Jeroen.

From the pier to Alona Beach is about 25 minutes by car. From Alona Beach to Loboc River will take about 45 minutes by car.--Jeroen

If you do not want to stay directly on the beach, just a little behind the first row of more expensive resorts are a range of cheaper places, starting at about 400 pesos per night, I think. Such prices can go even lower if you stay for more than a week.--Jeroen.

The websites quote prices in dollars for international visitors, and to limit the risks of devaluation of the peso, which hurts if you have to pay for imported goods. Outside the high season, prices are negotiable for walk-in visitors, but also when you make reservations directly. At Alona beach there are enough options to go elsewhere if the price isn't right. Note that even though prices are quoted in dollars, you can always pay in pesos.

Who's been at Bohol Beach Club? Are the facilities and service worth any good? What about food prices, are they affordable?

Good and cheap hardly ever go together, so you really need to decide on your budget, and then select the kind of service that fits with it. Also, what is good for some, isn't necessarily so for others, that is why I try to describe some features of each place, so you can make an informed choice. I haven't been at Bohol Beach Club, so I cannot fairly comment on them.--Jeroen.

I agree in some hotels, the employees aren't always up-to their tasks. It is best to directly complain to the management in such cases. Those entrance fees to just have a look at a resort make little sense. Even I was once asked to shelve out 150 pesos just to see a resort and make some pictures for this website. Well, they can forget about being listed here... As a small reminder about tipping, in restaurants you normally give them after you're satisfied, and 10 percent of the bill seems reasonable to me, if you're satisfied about the service. When tipping, please don't forget the cleaning lady who cleans your room when you're out. You can complain about the high prices asked from foreigners, but if you know the right price, and don't budge in, you can normally get everything for a fraction of the price you'll pay at home.--Jeroen.

December is the time many Boholano's return home, and is certainly a nice time to see the place in a festive mood. Take care to make some reservations in advance, and be adviced that not all hotels will take reservations for just 3 days during this period. If you like a more peaceful place, go to the more secluded resorts and avoid Tagbilaran (although it is fun to see it decorated). Visiting for just three days to do all those things and relax may be difficult to combine.--Jeroen.
