Dauis

IJsselstein, Saturday, 14 January 2012

Dauis is one of the two towns on the island of Panglao. It is one of the oldest municipalities of Bohol.

In 1879, it had a population of 9,090. No record of its establishment exists because all municipal records were burned during the World War II. However, a stone church tower which was built near the present church bears the year 1774, which must have been the date of its construction. And also, the establishment of the parish, the Assumption of our Lady Shrine Parish, according to church records, was in 1697 and proclaimed a shrine in 2004. . It is probable that the founding of the town was not far from that year. The old church was erected in 1863 and the convent in 1884. This church has a water well at the foot of the altar which has a unique story on why there is a well inside the church.

Dauis is the entry to Panglao Island, and, if you don't just rush by towards Alona Beach, you can explore the Hinagdanan cave in Bingag, Dauis.

Fiesta

Dauis celebrate its town fiesta on the 15th of August in honor of the Assumption of Our Lady.

Census is an important record for future reference. For example I am looking for my roots in Dauis Bohol. According to my father who passed away in 2006 the ARANAL family has roots there. If you know of anyone named Aranal or married to an Aranal please have them contact marie_lycette@yahoo.com
